Seminars in Neuroscience

In addition to didactic course and laboratory research requirements, all students in the Vanderbilt Brain Institute's Neuroscience Graduate Program are required to attend the monthly Neuroscience Graduate Program Seminar Series. The Vanderbilt Brain Institute's Neuroscience Graduate Program Seminar Series presents lectures by renowned investigators conducting state-of-the-art research, allowing graduate students and faculty to keep abreast of ongoing achievements in neuroscience research. Students in the program (via the Neuroscience Student Organization) will also serve as hosts to visiting lecturers in the Vanderbilt Brain Institute's Neuroscience Graduate Program Seminar Series, expanding their professional contacts with leading researchers.

Seminars presented by other Vanderbilt Brain Institute Participant Departments, Centers, and Institutes will further enhance the Neuroscience Graduate student's access to scientists and research breakthroughs in related disciplines. You may find a listing of these HERE. Students have the option of attending these seminars.

Neuroscience Journal Club

Neuroscience Journal Club is conducted weekly. The Journal Club is attended by faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students. Each week a topic and set of journal articles is selected by a graduate trainee and a senior fellow or faculty member. All attendees read the manuscripts and the graduate-faculty team lead a group discussion on the key points of the manuscripts. Journal Club activities get graduate students "into the literature", broadening their scholarly background in diverse neuroscience topics, and hone skills in communicating the ideas and methods of other researchers to small groups.
